Jane iredale: a green story

We want to share with you, both those who know us and those who are new, how we support the Earth throughout the year and on Earth Day. jane-iredale cares about our footprint on the Earth and strives to minimize it. Our offices recently moved to our new beautiful building. It was an old school, the Bryant School, that we renovated in order to preserve as much character, charm, and originality as possible, while also updating it so as to leave as little environmental footprint as possible. The Bryant School is currently applying to the US Green Building Council for a LEED Gold Award.

New offices are designed to reduce our carbon footprint through the use of less fossil fuels. When renovating the offices, some environmentally conscious choices were made. For example, almost all materials used, including furniture, are made of low-solvent, low-chemical ingredients. Seven amazing rain gardens drain into the Housatonic River less than 800 feet from the building. In addition, during the renovation of these offices, more than 90% of building materials that were disposed of in demolition and construction have been recycled. Our new offices are located at the Bryant School. We moved into this beautiful green building earlier this year and we’re enjoying it. Summer is coming, and while it’s still cold in the Berkshires we are spending more time in the company garden to grow food for our employees and their families. All employees are invited to take part in the growing, care, and consumption of these delicious fruits and vegetables. We are so excited to eat!

We’re also looking forward to hosting a local Farmer’s Market each Saturday morning between May and October. The parking lot of our company will be filled by hardworking local farmers who raise organic meat, produce organic milk, yogurt, and cheese, and grow a variety of fruits and vegetables. Stop by the Farmer’s Market to see what local foods the Berkshires have to offer. We still stay true to our roots and incorporate this into our makeup collection. Click here for our blog on eco-friendly cosmetics to learn more. Here are some ways that we are going green in 2015. How are you planning to be green on Earth Day and throughout 2015? Let us know below!
