What is in my beauty and skin care packaging?

You probably pay attention to the certifications and ingredient list on the packaging of skin care products to verify the quality. You want formulas with proven efficacy that are good for your skin. What about the packaging? Both consumers and beauty brands are more aware than ever of the packaging used for skin care products and its impact on the environment.

A staggering 11 million metric tonnes of plastic waste are deposited in the ocean every year. This includes, unfortunately, beauty product packaging. The amount of plastic waste deposited into the sea each year is alarming. This includes beauty product packaging.

We’ll explain what you need to know about eco-friendly skincare and beauty packaging.

What can be done to reduce the waste of skin care packaging in the beauty industry?

Recyclable Packaging: The bottle and outer packaging are 100% recyclable. Glass, metal, some paper, and cardboard packaging can be fully recycled. Plastic can also be recycled, but it is more difficult, and only 9 percent of plastics put into the bin are actually reused.

Sustainable Packaging considers the environmental impact of packaging throughout its entire lifecycle. The term “closed-loop system” may be mentioned. This means that your skin care product package can be refilled or recycled.

What can be done to reduce the waste of skin care packaging in the beauty industry?

The demand for environmentally friendly skincare packaging is growing, and fortunately, many major brands are answering the call. There are some things that brands can do in order to achieve and maintain sustainable beauty packaging. Skin care packaging must still be functional, but there are other ways to make it more eco-friendly. Dr. Joel Schlessinger, LovelySkin’s CEO and resident dermatologist, shared his thoughts on eco-friendly skincare packaging and the industry in general.

We have always tried to find ways to support the environment and reduce our carbon footprint. We use recycled material for our packaging and boxes, and we try to reuse packing materials and boxes whenever possible. We recycle what can’t be reused. Your skin care package will be shipped in containers made of post-consumer recyclable material. The same goes for the packaging materials.

We are also behind every effort for brands to offer packaging for skin care products in more environmentally friendly ways. We have encouraged brands to simplify and decrease excessive packing when possible. Most brands at LovelySkin understand the importance of this and are committed to a brighter future for both us and our planet. “I always say that LovelySkin cares about you and the planet!”

What beauty brands do I have at LovelySkin that are eco-friendly?

LovelySkin has a number of brands that are dedicated to reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfills. You can find 11 brands that use sustainable manufacturing methods to create eco-friendly skin care products.

Eminence Organics

Eminence Organics is known for its organic formulas, sustainable farming methods, and overall care for the environment. Eminence Organics’ green initiatives have made them one of the industry leaders when it comes to developing sustainable beauty packaging. Eminence Organics packaging is recyclable and made with FSC-certified material. It’s also printed using eco-friendly inks. They also use recyclable plastic containers whenever possible, and all packing chips are made from 100% biodegradable Corn that dissolves in water.

Naturopathic

Naturopathica’s products use green chemicals. This means that their products are manufactured in a manner that reduces, or even eliminates, the production of hazardous substances. This eco-friendly approach is reflected in the packaging of skin care products. Ecocert certification means that their packaging for skin care products has already been vetted and approved to be environmentally friendly. Their cartons are also made of 100% post-consumer recycled materials, and their caps are made of fully recyclable polypropylene and aluminum.

The bottles of Naturopathica skin products are made from PET plastic or glass, which is BPA-free and recyclable. This material is widely accepted as safe forrstoringing food and beverages and for public use.
